Library Director

Greetings Readers and Happy Spring!

I am hoping that by writing about all things spring, I can summon warmer weather and leafy trees. This New Englander has had quite enough of winter, and I’m ready to turn the page to brighter days ahead.

I am so excited to share this season’s newsletter and lineup of library programming with you, as it marks the beginning of a very special year at BPL. In 2026, we will be celebrating our 130th birthday! As we look ahead to the future and the ways we continue to serve our community, we’ll also be taking time to reflect on where we’ve been. Throughout the year, be sure to keep an eye out for special displays featuring library artifacts, Throwback Thursday posts on our social media, and moments that highlight the people, stories, and milestones that have shaped our library over the decades.

We’re also looking forward to celebrating this milestone with you through special programs and events all year long. We’ll be kicking things off during National Library Week in April at the opening of our Fourth Annual Tiny Art Show—always a community favorite and a wonderful reminder of the creativity that lives within our walls.

On a personal note, I can truly say it is a genuine pleasure to be part of this library community. From our dedicated staff and Board of Library Directors, to the generous Friends of the Library, and to our thoughtful, enthusiastic patrons—this library is what it is because of all of you. Thank you for your continued support, kindness, and curiosity.

It is also full-speed ahead with programming for all ages! When you look through our calendar of events, you’ll see not only some returning favorites, but plenty of new offerings as well. Whether you’re stopping in for a program, browsing the shelves, or simply enjoying a quiet moment, we hope there’s something here that sparks your interest.

I am also pleased to share that our Friends of the Library are getting ready for their big Spring Book Sale. Thanks to the generous donations of our community, there will be thousands of new and gently used books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and more to explore when the sale takes place in May. The Friends are still collecting donations, so if you have like-new books you’d like to contribute, please feel free to bring them by anytime the library is open. Your donations, and your book sale shopping, help fund programs and library materials.

We look forward to seeing you this spring—and throughout our anniversary year—at the library.

Warmly,
