Library Director

Greetings Readers and Happy Spring! I am choosing to believe our friend, Punxsutawney Phil, and fill my mind with images of daffodils and leaf buds rather than more snow. Luckily, the library is ready for a new season as well and has prepared a wonderful lineup of programming for patrons of all ages!

I am also excited to announce that this spring we will be launching a Seed Library! A variety of vegetable, herb and flower seeds will be available for you to check out and plant in your gardens. We have received a generous donation of seeds through UConn and Ocean State Job Lot but are always looking for more! If you have leftover seeds in packets, or ones that you have harvested, and would like to donate them to our collection, we will gladly accept them. We hope to have our seeds ready for checkout by the end of March.

Spring will also bring the return of our Tiny Art Show. This will be our second year showcasing the fantastic, and diverse, creations of our patrons. Mini canvases will be available to pick up beginning in March and our Tiny Art Show reception will be on April 16th at 6:30 PM.

Mark your calendars now to save the date for the upcoming Friends of the Library book sale! Come browse thousands of books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles on April 4th through April 6th. More details can be found on our Spring calendar. For those of you getting ready to do some Spring cleaning, the Friends are currently looking for new and gently used books. Please no magazines, textbooks or encyclopedias.

Programs, audiobooks, large print, museum passes, Hoopla, magazines, DVDs- an endless list of resources that all library patrons have benefited from and all thanks to a group of tireless and dedicated volunteers. This year, the Friends of the Library celebrate 60 years of service to the Burlington Public Library. Without the efforts of the Friends, we would not be able to provide you with the experiences and materials that you all enjoy. We invite you to celebrate their service and dedication at a special event on Friday, March 8th at 6 PM. During this event, we will also be exhibiting many images of Burlington’s past from our historical image collection. All images will be for sale and benefit the Friends of the Library.

Without further ado, I am so pleased to share with you all our Spring calendar. To check out what we will be offering, click on the “Calendar” tab on our website.

I look forward to seeing you all at the library!
